Why Reading is Great for your Brain

Hello everybody and today we are learning what kind of effects books have on your brain.

There are so many reasons to read. In this post I will only be able to mention some of these. I 100% recommend reading every day. I know that this is something that I have not found a good way to do. That was the inspiration for this post. I know that reading is good for lots of things and I just want to read more. As I was researching I thought this would be awesome to share so this is what has come from that.

I love books and a couple of things that shocked me are that the average American does not read another book once they leave college. One other fact is that about 28% of adults in the U.S have not read a book in the last year.

Let’s start this post.

Reading will help you relax.

One of the most obvious reasons for reading is to just escape. If you just read for even half an hour it can refresh you and keep you going for the rest of the day. I often find, my self, that when I find a good book, every time that I read that book I find my self lost in the story. When you have read you don’t have as much going on in your mind.

Basically what I am trying to say is that reading is a way of escaping all of the stress of work or school. Just for this half an hour of an escape can increase productivity.

Vocabulary

When you read for half an hour each day it is almost certain that you will eventually come across a new word. Also being constantly exposed to words can help you remember the spelling and meaning of many words. You can tell if someone reads everyday by the way they talk. If you read then you are more likely to use better language skills in day to day life. Also when writing you will use more interesting language to keep the listener interested.

You Sleep Better After Reading

As we have already established, reading is great to escape. Many sleep experts have recommended a regular de-stressing routine before going to bed. Bright lights and screens from devices signal to the brain that it is time to wake up so that is obviously not a solution. Well you guessed it. Reading with a dim light to not strain your eyes is ideal.

Another thing that makes reading superior to any electronic device is that after having watched a few videos, checked all your emails or anything like that, your brain will still be buzzing around the never sleeping internet.One rule to follow when choosing a book to read before going to sleep is to not make it a book that you can not stop reading for a couple of hours.

Reading Keeps You Still

One of the things that parents will love most about this post is that reading will keep even the most energetic of people sitting still. My Mum has said a million times “I love it when my kids learnt how to read because they were quite for once.”

I am a very energetic person and every time that I sit down and read a book it keeps me still. The only thing that comes close to that is when I am writing posts. Honestly, if you can make a kid my age sit down three times a week to write posts, then congratulations. I only do it out of joy.

Constantly Reading helps Memory

Many people find that just by reading that half an hour a day their memory gets boosted. There is not too much information or fact behind this but I will honestly say that it is true for me and the amount of times that people have said it is just way to many. Even if this does not happen for you then I would not just not read seeing as there are so many benefits.

How to Schedule Your Reading

Scheduling something into your life is very useful for anything you have difficulty doing daily. Once you have done something for a couple of weeks you will not even think about doing that anymore. I would recommend before you go to sleep or first thing in the morning. Really no matter what I recommend you should just find the best time in your day. Whether it is on the train to work or during your lunch time break, the only tip I have for you is to READ!
