Training vs Working out - Whats the difference?

This might sound like I'm nitpicking, but the language we use is important, and there is a difference

"15 minute ab circuit for an instant six pack" isn't training
"how to dunk" videos on repeat, isn't training
going to the gym and doing 3x10 on every machine isn't training

Training requires structure towards a goal or a group of goals.
Training takes into account your individual factors (skill level, time, preferences, fatigue)
Training is what we want to be doing to see improvement

Workouts are good to get started exercising, they allow a great entry point. They can be made fun, are accessible, and have great reach. But, doing these long term will only get you the basic "first tier" improvements that come with exercise

Quite frankly these can be achieved by just not sitting down so much, walking more and eating a bit better

For some people this might be enough because they now feel better and have some fun

But,, if you plan out training to incorporate all the pieces you need to get to your goal, or even better, get a coach to help you do so... then this structure is going to make you that much more likely to actually achieve that goal.

And suprisingly, with this structure comes a certain amount of freedom outside of training to still take part in the other exercise within your life. Whether that means pick-up basketball, hiking with some friends or walking the dog 🐩

So neither are "bad"

However, if you can afford to have a coach to help you plan your training, no matter your skill level or current activity this will be about as great an investment as you can make.

If you can't hire a coach to train you week to week then there are heaps more resources out there to help you get started in a better way than random youtube "glute" circuits

There are options to train rather than working out, and if that's what's going to get you feeling better and achieving your goals, it's probably the decision to make

You only have one body after all
